Overview
We’re seeking feedback on the types of decisions that will be covered by the new independent review function.
The independent review function will provide the aviation sector with a timely, practical, and affordable alternative to appealing certain decisions made by (or on behalf of) the Director of Civil Aviation through the courts. The function will be operational on 5 April 2025 when the new Civil Aviation Act comes into force.
We’re seeking feedback on the type of decisions that should be part of this function.
How to provide feedback
More information and questions for you to consider can be found in the consultation document. The document invites your feedback on three indicative options for setting the scope of reviewable decisions. This is intended to help us understand the impacts of different approaches and the likely demand for the function.
Your feedback will help inform final policy advice on the scope of decisions to be covered by the independent review function. Depending on the feedback received, the scope that is finalised may differ from the options presented in this paper.

We are currently analysing submissions and developing final policy advice on the scope of the independent review function
